Gold consumption in China increased by 4.41% in the first quarter of 2026

Beijing, May 9 /Xinhua/ – Gold consumption in China increased by 4.41 percent in the first quarter of 2026, driven mainly by high demand for gold bars and coins, the China Gold Association reported on Saturday.

According to the organization’s data, in January-March the consumption of gold in the country reached 303.29 tons. At the same time, demand for gold bars and coins increased by 46.4% to 202.06 tons, while demand for jewelry fell by 37.1% to 84.62 tons. Gold consumption in industry and other sectors decreased by 7.43% to 16.61 tons.

Moreover, in the first quarter, there was an inflow into gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in China amounting to 50.44 tons, which is 114.88% more compared to the same period last year. As of the end of March, the ETF volumes totaled 298.29 tons.
