On April 2, a meeting took place at the State University of Management with the Russian theater and film actor Stepan Abramov as part of the VII All-Russian Festival of Student Short Films “Kinosfera.”

An actor with over 20 years of acting experience, has starred in dozens of works of various genres: comedy series, war films, satirical comedies, dramas, detective stories, etc. Among the latest works are such films as “Border of the Worlds,” “Crew 314,” “According to the Laws of Wartime-6. Battle for the Island,” “Tverskaya,” “Casanova,” “Interns,” and others.

The guest said that after school he went to acting courses, acted in his first film, understood that acting was his thing, and for 27 years now he has been developing in this profession and trying related fields.

“First of all, you need to answer yourself: why are you becoming an actor? For fame and recognition, for money, or for something else. I came for the process. I don’t need to be on a poster or to be a hero. I simply get pleasure from this work. At the same time, you need to develop yourself and not make acting your only job, because sometimes there may be very few or no offers. I have started writing scripts; my experience helps me with this since I have already seen a lot. Recently, I, as a director, shot my first debut.”

The main qualities of the actor Stepan were named as stress resistance, the ability to wait and overcome obstacles, being ready for difficulties and trials.

“One must understand that the profession of an actor is not easy. You have to be ready for the director to shout, for a colleague to say something, not to get the role, to be cut out of the film, etc. You need to avoid falling into despondency, not to suffer and pity yourself, but to analyze the reasons, draw conclusions, and work on yourself. Also, you need to work through your ego, remain a human being, and not betray yourself. Many actors, including my acquaintances, have perished from star disease and its accompanying moments,” shared the actor.

They asked the guys about how to choose a profession, what to do when you get a rejection, and how to understand if it is really yours.

“There are different ways to enter this field, knock on various doors, try to seek other routes. For example, start with an artist’s assistant, a producer’s assistant, and there, at a convenient opportunity, show yourself and there will be a chance that you will be noticed. To understand whether this profession suits you, you need to try to assess yourself objectively, understand who you are, what kind of material suits you best. In general, acting university instructors accurately determine whether there is talent and organization. But there is also persistence, desire, aspiration. You won’t get far on talent alone; colossal working capacity is also needed,” the actor noted.

Speaking about the state of the modern film industry and popular actors, Abramov shared several amusing stories and talked about his attitude towards the nominees of the latest Oscar.

“In my opinion, there is too much politics in cinema today. I watched several Oscar-winning films in various categories and did not understand why exactly they became the best. Remember the same ‘Titanic’ — that was a completely different level. Speaking about our cinema, the trend of shooting not actors, but bloggers, singers, and other artists without education causes bewilderment here. Acting is a profession that you study your whole life. The more experience you have, the better you can play, the wider your palette of possibilities.”

The actor revealed his personal secrets of professional mastery: “To get into the role, I fully read the script, examine my character, analyze him, invent a biography for him, what his home would be like, what he likes or dislikes, what habits he has, etc. This creates a multifaceted image that can be played out on stage, improvised, and the little things reflect his character or his state. I really love to use these tricks.”

At the end of the meeting, everyone who wished was able to take a photo with the guest and get his autograph.
