Washington, May 8 /Xin Hua/ — The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classified the outbreak of the S-antavirus as an “emergency of the third level” — the lowest of three possible threat levels on the CDC scale. This was reported on Thursday by the ABC News television channel.
The situation is being actively monitored by the CDC, the statement says.
On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that five out of eight cases registered on board the cruise ship MV Hondius were confirmed as cases of infection with the virus, while the remaining three are considered probable cases.
WHO denied the claim that the deadly outbreak of the coronavirus on a cruise ship was the “beginning of the COVID pandemic,” stating that the risk to the population remains low.
