Beijing, May 8 /Xin Hua/ — The Ministry of Finance of the PRC allocated 45.8 billion yuan (about 6.7 billion USD) to support the development of preschool education in 2026, which is 12.56 billion yuan, or 38 percent, more than last year.
Funds will be primarily directed towards supporting local authorities in implementing policies to abolish fees for daycare and preschool education, expanding access to inclusive educational resources, improving the quality of education, as well as strengthening financial assistance systems for children from low-income and other vulnerable population groups.
According to data from the authorities, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the central government of China has allocated a total of 126.2 billion yuan to support preschool education.
Starting from the fall semester of 2025, the fee for childcare and education for children in their graduating year in state kindergartens in China was abolished, and appropriate subsidies are also provided for children attending private institutions.
This policy has benefited more than 14 million children and reduced family education expenditures by more than 20 billion yuan. The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China has committed to coordinate with the Ministry of Education of the PRC local government actions to strengthen provincial coordination, ensure proper distribution of central and local subsidies, and guarantee the normal operation of kindergartens.
The department also announced the continuation of efforts to expand access to quality preschool education, eliminate existing shortcomings, and gradually improve the overall level of services for the upbringing and education of younger children.
