Since the introduction of the mutual visa-free regime between China and Russia, cross-border tourism in the border city of Suifenhe in Heilongjiang Province has been experiencing a real boom. During the May Day holidays, a significant increase in the number of tourist groups from Russia was recorded.
Zhou Haisa, a manager of a travel agency: “This year, the number of bookings has increased compared to last year. The main routes chosen by tourists are Suihua, as well as in-depth tours to Harbin, Beijing, and Dalian. Mainly, these are family trips.”
Against the backdrop of an influx of tourists, the city of Suifenhe is optimizing multilingual excursion services, simplifying mechanisms for cross-border payments, and creating volunteer points in key areas. Local departments of culture and tourism are also strengthening supervision of the tourist market to ensure Chinese and foreign tourists “a successful arrival, a pleasant stay, and an unimpeded departure.”
