This year Russia marks the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. On the eve of this holiday, large-scale landscaping work has been carried out across the country at memorial sites, including those located along high-speed highways. The state company “Avtodor” has restored order to the territories of 50 monuments, military graves, and memorials. This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin.
“Preserving the memory of the Great Victory is our sacred duty, uniting different generations and peoples of our country. It is for this reason that we treat the improvement of monuments and memorials—with special gratitude, respect, and love—reminding us of the courage and strength of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. On the eve of the 81st anniversary of Victory, 50 territories of monuments, military graves, and memorials located along the highways M-1 “Belarus”, M-3 “Ukraine”, M-11 “Neva”, M-4 “Don”, and M-12 “Vostok” were improved.”During trips along these roads, people can touch the heroic history of the Fatherland, as each such place is a reminder of the price at which Victory was won. For example, along the M-1 “Belarus” highway, the territory near the monument to the soldier-road workers at the 71st km is improved, near the sculpture of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya at the 86th km, near the T-34 tank at the 74th km, near the monument “And There Were Ten Thousand” at the 141st km, and near other objects, including brotherly graves at the border of the “Field of Glory”,” said Marat Khusnullin.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that along the M-3 ‘Ukraine’ highway, work has been carried out at memorials in honor of the warrior-heroes of the 33rd Army, heroes-militiamen of the Kuibyshevsky and Frunzensky districts of Moscow, as well as at monuments to the soldiers of the 50th Army of the Bryansk Front and the 65th Army, which defended Sevsk.
On the M-11 ‘Neva’, they landscaped the area near the 563rd km and erected a monument ‘To those who died defending the Fatherland’ in honor of the soldiers of the 2nd Shock Army, who fell in battle in 1942 near the village of Myasnoy Bor. The memorial includes a canopy with images of the Novgorod icon of the Mother of God ‘The Sign’ and Alexander Nevsky.
On the M-4 “Don” works have been carried out in several regions: in the Tula region – brotherly graves and the memorial “Mound of Immortality”, in the Rostov region – monuments “To the Thirteen Heroes”, “To the Paratrooper Soldiers” and “To Those Who Did Not Return”, in the Krasnodar Territory – monuments “To the Revolution Sailors”, to the soldiers of the 30th Irkutsk Division, the memorial “Line – the defensive frontier” and other reburials.
On the M-12 “Vostok” highway in the Republic of Bashkortostan, the monument to twice Hero of the Soviet Union Muse Gareev was renovated.
Chairman of the board of the state company “Avtodor” Vyacheslav Petushenko noted the contribution of road workers to the preservation of historical memory.
“Traditionally, on the eve of Victory Day, we bring the memorials and monuments along our road network into order. Road workers were among the first to face the hardships of war: they built and restored the routes along which the offensive proceeded. Today, by improving these sites of memory, we honor their feat. These places are not just part of road infrastructure, but a living connection of generations, a reminder of the heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland. We will continue the systematic work on preserving the historical heritage for future generations,” noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.
