Beijing, May 5 /Xin Hua/ — During the five-day national holidays for International Workers’ Day (May 1), the Chinese capital received 18.83 million tourists, which is 5.1 percent more compared to the same period last year. This was reported on Tuesday by the capital’s department of culture and tourism.
Tourists spent a total of 22.36 billion yuan (about 3.26 billion US dollars), which is 6.6% more year-on-year.
The city was visited by 128,000 inbound tourists, which is 22.3% more year-on-year, and the revenue reached 1.38 billion yuan, increasing by 22.6% on an annual basis.
During the holidays in Beijing, there were more than 2,000 thematic cultural and tourist events, such as artistic performances, tours of attractions, popular science and educational excursions, and fashion fairs.
According to official data, 1684 sessions of 332 commercial offline presentations were held in the city, and the total box office revenue reached approximately 260 million yuan. –0–
