Islamabad, May 5 /Xinhua/ — 15 crew members of the Iranian vessel Touska, previously seized by the United States, were handed over to the Iranian authorities on Monday at the checkpoint (CP) in Gwadar district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province. This was reported by officials to the Xinhua agency.
The transfer took place at the Gabd-Rimdan CPP in the coastal area bordering Iran, confirmed the deputy district commissioner Nakibulla Kakar.
According to him, the crew members were officially handed over to the Iranian authorities after the adoption of necessary measures and coordination of actions between the two parties.
15 crew members belong to a group of 22 Iranian citizens who were previously evacuated to Pakistan. They were held on board a container ship, detained by the US last month.
According to sources in the security service speaking on condition of anonymity, the remaining crew members will be repatriated at the next stage.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan announced that the country aided the release of U.S. crew members as a confidence-building measure. They were transported by plane to Pakistan for subsequent repatriation to Iran.
