The Hague, May 5 /Xin Hua/ — The World Health Organization /WHO/ has confirmed a second case of infection with the antavirus detected on a cruise liner in the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of which the total number of confirmed cases on board has reached two. The Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions, which owns the vessel, reported this on Monday in its statement.

According to the report, among the newly confirmed cases of infection is a passenger from the Netherlands, who died on April 27.

After the death of a married couple from the Netherlands and a German citizen, as well as the illness of two crew members on board, about 150 people remain. It is reported that another passenger, a British citizen who tested positive for the virus, has left the ship and is being treated in the intensive care unit in Johannesburg / South Africa /.

“Two crew members on board are still experiencing acute respiratory symptoms: one has mild symptoms, the other severe. Both require emergency medical assistance,” the statement says. “These crew members hold British and Dutch citizenship. At present, no other individuals with symptoms have been identified.”

Hantavirus is a rare but potentially dangerous virus transmitted from infected rodents.
