Beijing, May 4 /Xinhua/ — Last Friday, the first day of the May Day holiday in China, the premiere of the plastic puppet play “Swan Lake” took place in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, a joint production by the Shanghai Puppet Troupe and the Russian puppet theater “Aistenok,” local media reported.
Notably, this is the first puppet theater production in history that tells the plot of the world-famous classic “Swan Lake”, as well as the first joint work of Chinese and Russian creative teams in the field of puppet art, noted in the report.
In the new production, there are no lines, and the plot development is carried entirely through the use of puppet images and the actors’ body language, which became an innovative breakthrough in puppet performance. At the same time, the stage and musical design of the play vividly reflect the classical Russian style, immersing the audience in a touching atmosphere of Russian fairy tales.
As noted by the Shanghai Puppet Troupe, the joint production not only allows Chinese and Russian colleagues to learn from each other and mutually adopt creative concepts in the field of stage art, but also helps demonstrate to the world the unique charm of puppet art in the Shanghai style, which is an intangible cultural heritage through the presentation of world-class classics.
Exchanges between China and Russia in the field of puppet art continue. As has become known, on May 14 representatives of the Shanghai puppet troupe will go to Russia with the performance “Nine-colored Deer” to participate in the international puppet theater festival in Omsk. -0-
