Tehran, May 3 /Xin Hua/ — Iran presented the US with a 14-point counterproposal calling for the complete cessation of hostilities and full withdrawal of American troops from the region. This was reported on Saturday by the semi-official news agency Tasnim.

The plan was delivered through Pakistani intermediaries in response to a US proposal consisting of nine points.

While Washington’s plan provides for a two-month ceasefire, Tehran insists on a 30-day period to resolve key issues, insisting that the negotiations focus on “ending the war,” not on a temporary truce, the news agency reports.

Iran’s demands include the withdrawal of American troops from areas near its borders and guarantees of non-aggression, as well as economic measures such as lifting the maritime blockade, unfreezing assets, easing sanctions, and payment of compensation.

The proposal also calls for the cessation of hostilities on several fronts, including in Lebanon, and for the creation of a new mechanism to control the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key global route for oil transportation.

Iran expects an official response from the USA, the report says.

Government media reported that Iran made a new proposal for negotiations through Pakistan on Tuesday.

On February 28, Israel and the USA carried out joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, resulting in the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, as well as high-ranking military commanders and civilians. Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli and American targets in the Middle East using missiles and drones.

The ceasefire came into effect on April 8, after which negotiations took place in Islamabad between the Iranian and American delegations, which did not lead to an agreement. –0–
