Shenzhen, May 1 /Xin Hua/ — Exactly at midnight, 24 tons of South African apples became the first batch of imports arriving in China under an important initiative, as China extended its zero-tariff regime to all 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations. This policy took effect on May 1.
This batch of goods, which quickly passed customs clearance in Shenzhen early Friday morning, is intended for supermarkets and wholesale markets throughout the country. The customs duty rate on these South African apples has been reduced from 10% to zero, which has strengthened their price competitiveness in the Chinese market.
Since December 1, 2024, China has introduced a zero-tariff regime for the least developed countries with which it has established diplomatic relations, including 33 least developed African countries.
The introduction of zero tariffs is another important step that will give a powerful boost to Chinese-African trade and investment cooperation and the development of Africa. -0-
