With the approach of the May 1 holiday vacation, a peak in tourist flow and trips to relatives is expected in many regions of Xinjiang. Railway authorities are increasing their capacity, including by launching additional trains, to meet passenger demand for trips during the holiday days.
This year, the period of railway transportation related to the May Day holidays will be extended from April 29 to May 6. To meet the needs of passengers for travel during the holidays, the Urumqi Railway Administration plans to launch 302 additional passenger trains, which will operate between the main cities of Xinjiang.
According to the forecasts of railway authorities, this year the passenger flow in Xinjiang during the May Day holidays will mainly consist of tourists, people visiting relatives, and students. In some areas, the “spring holidays” in schools coincide with the May 1 holiday, which leads to high demand for trips.
