Beijing, April 30 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the Taiwan issue concerns the core interests of China and represents the point of greatest risk in China-US relations.

Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made a corresponding statement during a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio.

According to the Chinese diplomat, the American side must fulfill its obligations and make the right choice by opening new space for China-US cooperation and contributing to the promotion of peace throughout the world.

As Van I stated, diplomacy of the heads of state unchangingly serves as an “anchor” for Sino-American relations. Noting that under the strategic leadership of CCP Chairman Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, Sino-American relations as a whole maintain stability, the head of the Chinese MFA emphasized that this corresponds to the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries and the common aspirations of the international community.

It indicated that the parties should consistently maintain the hard-won stability, properly prepare an agenda of important contacts at a high level, expand spheres of cooperation, control disagreements, and strive to build Chinese-American relations that are strategic, constructive, and stable in nature, following the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
