Washington, April 30 /Xinhua/ — The American aircraft carrier “Gerald R. Ford” will leave the Middle East in the coming days and return home, the newspaper “Washington Post” reported on Wednesday.
This step “will become a long-awaited relief for about 4,500 sailors who have been in the conflict zone for 10 months, but it will lead to a significant loss of firepower against the backdrop of a deadlock in peace negotiations between the USA and Iran,” the statement says.
The aircraft carrier strike group “Gerald R. Ford” began its last deployment on June 24, 2025, departing from the American state of Virginia to the area of responsibility of the U.S. European Command, then was sent to Latin America to conduct operations against drugs, and afterwards to the Middle East due to escalating tensions in relations with Iran.
This is one of the aircraft carriers operating in the Middle East region, along with the aircraft carriers “George Bush” and “Abraham Lincoln.”
US President Donald Trump is to hear a report on a new plan for potential military action in Iran on Thursday from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), internet publication Axios reported on Wednesday.
CENTCOM has prepared a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes against Iran, probably including infrastructure targets, in the hope of bringing negotiations out of a deadlock, according to a message citing three well-informed sources. –0–
