Tehran, April 30 /Xin Hua/ — Six of the 28 crew members of the Iranian container ship Touska, seized by the USA in early April, have been released and returned to Iran. This was reported on Wednesday by the semi-official news agency Tasnim.

According to reports, efforts are being made to free the remaining crew members whom Iran calls “terrorist” hostages of the US government.

A vessel flying the Iranian flag was seized by American forces off the coast of Chabahar port in southeastern Iran in the Oman Gulf on April 19.

Iran condemned the act as a “brazen act of piracy.” The Central Headquarters of the Iranian Military Command “Khatam al-Anbiya” explained that the armed forces did not intervene at this moment, since there were family members of the crew on board.

The USA imposed a blockade on all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade came into force after Iran-U.S. negotiations held in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, on April 11 and 12 failed to reach an agreement.

Negotiations took place after the ceasefire between Iran, the USA, and Israel on April 8. –0–
