Washington, April 29 /Xinhua/ — Acting US Deputy Secretary of Defense Jules Hirst said on Wednesday that the costs for the ongoing war of the United States against Iran, which has already lasted two months, are estimated at 25 billion dollars.
“Today we are spending about 25 billion dollars on the operation ‘Epic Fury’,” said a high-ranking Pentagon official at a hearing in the Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives. Also speaking at the hearing were Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Keen.
J. Hurst added that most of these funds were spent on ammunition and include expenses for operations, technical maintenance, and equipment replacement.
According to previous reports by the media, on March 11 representatives of the Pentagon told legislators in a closed briefing that the administration of D. Trump spent more than $11.3 billion in the first six days of the war with Iran.
P. Hegseth’s participation in the multi-hour hearing became his first public speech since the start of the U.S. military strikes on Iran.
At the hearing, the majority of Republicans expressed support for President D. Trump’s decision to conduct a military operation against Iran, while Democrats engaged in a fierce dispute with P. Hegseth regarding the strategy, objectives, and consequences of this war. –0–
