The exhibition “History of Moscow” is dedicated to the life and everyday life of city residents of different eras, as well as to the architecture, culture, and development of the capital. The exposition includes about 2,700 artifacts and works of art.
“Today, visitors to the Museum of Moscow can see beloved women’s jewelry of ancient residents of the Moscow region, children’s toys from different times, old hoards, diverse books and engravings, panoramas of the city, and furniture from urban homes. A digital audio guide will tell in detail about the events that our city experienced from the 1st millennium BC to the 1930s, including the Time of Troubles, the Patriotic War of 1812, the First World War, the 1917 revolution. Thanks to the use of the audio guide, visiting the exhibition will become even more fascinating,” — they told the press service of the capital.
The audio guide was voiced by the honored artist of Russia, director, and teacher Igor Zolotovitsky.
From the Yedyak cultural heritage to the Soviet era
The tour begins with a section dedicated toDyakovskaya culture. Listeners learn about household items, tools, and jewelry from the early Iron Age. Among them is the famous Scherbinka hoard, which was discovered in 1964 during the excavation of a namesake settlement on the Paseka River. The hoard consisted of glass beads, spiral bracelets, as well as decorations that were likely part of a headdress — a cap embroidered with metal plaques. The first Slavs came to the Moskvorechye area about 200–300 years after the disappearance of the Dyakovo culture. The oldest Slavic settlements date back to the end of the 10th — beginning of the 11th century and were found, in particular, at the site of Danilov Monastery.And the mass appearance in Moskvoréchye dates back to the 12th century.
Further, the audio guide translates to the section aboutthe foundation of Moscow, which tells about the first urban fortifications and the origin of city names. Then it reveals the history of the Moscow principality in the 13th–15th centuries and the reign of Ivan the Terrible. Part of the exposition is dedicated to the Time of Troubles, the key event of which was the liberation of the city from Polish troops in 1612.
Audio guide listeners also learn aboutMoscow suburb â territorially isolated settlements of people united by kinship of occupation or social status. There existed military, monastic, foreign slobodas, but the most numerous were the artisan ones â the exhibition presents items created in them: leather goods, blacksmith products, clay pots and dishes.
Audio guide tells in detail aboutPetrovskaya era. The reforms of Peter I affected every aspect of Muscovite life and contributed to the formation of a secular urban culture. In particular, the very first Russian emperor introduced the new year counting from January 1 and established its celebration with the decoration of houses with fir branches, fireworks, and winter entertainments.
The following sections of the exhibition introduce MoscowЭпохи и барокко и period of the Enlightenment. Visitors will learn about one of the most difficult trials in the city’s history — the Patriotic War of 1812, during which it was occupied by French troops for 36 days. The audio guide will also tell about the restoration of the city after the war.
In the hall dedicated to Moscow19th century, listeners learn about the life of various urban classes, industrial and construction growth, electrification, and the development of transport.
The excursion will end with a narrativeabout Soviet Moscow. The speech will be about the innovations of the 1920s and the large-scale reconstruction of the 1930s, which was carried out along the main city highways: Ottonogo Ryada, Gorky Street, Leningradsky, Leninsky, Komsomolsky, and Kutuzovsky Avenues, as well as the Garden Ring.
