The event was dedicated to the birthdays of two outstanding dental scientists — Vadim Nikolaevich Kopeykin (March 17) and Aleksey Ivanovich Doynikov (March 21).
Contest participants
The teams were formed from first- and second-year residents and third-year students specializing in “Dentistry.” Six teams representing different countries participated in the olympiad.
- Kazakhstan: 1st-year resident Kavrigina Darya and 3rd-year student Litvinova Valeria.
- Moldova: Resident for 2 years Viktoriya Vornikova and 3rd-year student Georgiy Lesko.
- Turkmenistan: ordinator, 2nd year Razimbaev Begzad and 3rd-year student Orazgeldiyeva Medina.
- Jordan: Resident physician for 2 years Alyoreidi Omar Khussam Mohammed (also holds Palestinian citizenship) and 3rd-year student Aldzharr Andrey.
- Armenia: Ordinator Abgaryan Tatul and student Mikaelyan Tamara Sasunovna.
- Iran: Ordinator Farnam Mozaffar Jalali and 3rd year student Sabeg Yosef.
Olympiad program
The organizers have prepared a rich program that included both practical tasks and a theoretical quiz.
Students had to make an impression from alginate mass on the upper jaw (in two attempts) and a two-layer two-stage impression from C-silicone mass on the lower jaw (in one attempt). For clinical residents, the tasks were more complex. They had to make, in one attempt, an impression from plaster on the upper jaw, and a two-layer one-stage impression on the lower jaw using a pin.
In addition, both students and residents performed the scanning, and the final stage of the competition was a quiz.
Photo portfolio
The feature of the olympiad was a creative preliminary task for the teams — the countries participating in the olympiad formed communities. They had to compile a portfolio of analog printed photos to present their duet at the beginning of the event.
The portfolio should have included:
- Photo of the country’s flag (without fields);
- A group photo of team members (an orderly and a student) on the Red Square;
- Photo near the painting “Three Bogatyrs” alongside the depiction of teeth in the painting at the Tretyakov Gallery;
- Photo on Teatralnaya Square in front of the Bolshoi Theatre;
- frame before the main building of RUDN;
- Photo in the Scientific Library of RUDN;
- Photo in front of the logo of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry.
The organizers warned that the quiz would include questions related to each of the specified locations. So participants had to be especially attentive while shooting.
Best duet
According to the results of all the tests, the team representing Moldova won. OrdinatorViktoria Vornikovaand studentGeorgiy Leskoshowed the best results in practical tasks and quizzes.
“The emotions from the Olympics remained the most positive because the teams of the participating countries communicated perfectly with each other, creating a pleasant atmosphere of healthy competition. In my opinion, this is where the friendship of peoples lies. During the task completion, my partner and I constantly helped each other, so we hardly noticed any difficulties. Yes, not everything turned out perfectly, but we tried, supported each other, and this brought results. Regarding the quiz, I found it an interesting decision to focus not on knowledge of historical facts, but to arrange a sort of memory test, and this turned out to be our advantage.”I remember numbers, dates, and Georgiy—the facts—great, so the quiz went 10 out of 10! I would like to separately thank the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, the head of the departmentLebedenko Igor Yulievichand all the employees who participated in organizing the Olympics!» — sharedVictoria Vornikova.
“It was pleasant not only to hear competent criticism alongside evaluation, but also practical recommendations for the future. The tasks weren’t difficult since the department provided the opportunity to learn these skills in regular classes. Probably, most remembered the questions about the biographies of famous people, for example Patrice Lumumba or Miklouho-Maclay. Everything was enjoyable, happy to participate!” — toldGeorgy Lesko.
The “Precise Impression” Olympiad once again confirmed the high level of training of RUDN students and residents, and also demonstrated the importance of preserving the memory of great scientists who laid the foundations of domestic orthopedic dentistry.
