Beijing, April 27 /Xin Hua/ — Vice Premier of the State Council of the PRC Zhang Guoqing on Monday called for making thorough efforts to prevent and eliminate risks related to floods and droughts, pointing out the necessity of protecting people’s lives and property and maintaining overall social stability.

Zhou Gucheng, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, spoke with this appeal at the all-China video conference dedicated to work on flood and drought control.

The deputy heads of the Chinese government called to strengthen risk control at the stage of emergence, identify and eliminate hidden threats, and increase the potential for early warning and response.

Zhan Gotsin emphasized the importance of timely relocation of people from risk zones and global efforts to prevent mass cases of death and injury among the population. He also called for increased resilience of infrastructure to disasters and potential emergency response at the grassroots level.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council called for comprehensive implementation of anti-typhoon measures and work to combat drought, beforehand ensuring readiness of emergency rescue forces, materials, and equipment for eliminating the consequences of natural disasters.
