New Delhi, April 26 /Xinhua/ — At least six passengers were injured early Sunday morning when a Swiss International Airlines plane was forced to abort takeoff on one of the runways at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after one of its engines caught fire.
All passengers had to be evacuated immediately.
The Delhi-Chur flight was canceled around 01:08 local time. There were 232 people on board, the injured passengers were later hospitalized in a local private hospital.
A state of emergency was declared at the airport, according to the official statement from the airport management.
“The speech is about the Airbus A330 /HB-JHK/ aircraft. SWISS formed an operational group. On board were 228 passengers and 4 infants. The crew refused to take off and after assessing the situation decided as a precautionary measure to evacuate the aircraft,” reports The Times of India newspaper citing a statement from Swiss International Airlines.
