A meeting on issues of conservation and development of the Solovetsky Archipelago was held at the Government Coordination Center chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
They discussed the implementation of Government directives related to the restoration of cultural heritage sites and the construction of new buildings, as well as the implementation of measures for the development of the Solovetsky Archipelago. The report paid special attention to the work plan for the summer season of 2026.
By the decree of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in 2029 our country will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovetsky Archipelago. This is not just an anniversary, but a powerful incentive for qualitative changes in the social infrastructure of the archipelago and maintaining its status as one of the main spiritual centers of Russia. On the eve of this date, objects of cultural heritage, social and housing-communal infrastructure are already being built and restored. Preparation should proceed with full responsibility.It is important to meet deadlines, make maximum use of the opportunities of the upcoming season, act cohesively and communicate,” noted Dmitry Chernishenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister gave a number of instructions regarding work on the sites, as well as the development of the issue of the annual sending of students from the Solovki School to “Artek”, and graduates to the “Scarlet Sails” event in St. Petersburg.
The Ministry of Culture has finalized the plan of additional measures, which will be submitted for approval. The Rosimushchestvo has prepared a “roadmap” for the transfer of 31 cultural heritage sites to the monastery.
The Chairman of the Council of the Solovetsky Archipelago Foundation for Preservation and Development, Andrey Guts, said that in terms of the implementation of objects by the Interregional Scientific Restoration and Artistic Management, 3 contracts have been concluded for work on the hangar for seaplanes, the restoration of the cathedral bell tower, and the icon-painting chamber.
In 2026, it is planned to complete the restoration of the frames of St. Nicholas and the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos, the iconostasis of the Church of St. Nicholas, the sanctified building and the mill. Among the ongoing works are the repair and restoration of the Annunciation building and the monastery power station building, the construction of a technological pier, the reconstruction of the pier complex “Tamarin” and others. In addition, work is underway on the construction of the museum building and the reconstruction of the “Preobrazhenskaya” hotel.
The government of the Arkhangelsk region is carrying out work on the construction of a water supply network, as well as the preparation for the capital repair of a kindergarten and a school.
At the event, the First Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Alexander Lomakin and the First Deputy Minister of Culture Sergey Obryvalin also spoke.
