Washington, April 24 /Xinhua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is not rushing to end the war with Iran, noting that American citizens will have to spend “some more time” paying higher gasoline prices.
“I don’t want to rush events,” D. Trump said to journalists in the White House, adding that US citizens should be prepared for rising prices, since as a result they will get “Iran without nuclear weapons.”
“I am probably the least pressured person to ever hold this position. I have all the time in the world, but Iran does not. The clock is ticking!” — D. Trump wrote on Thursday on the social network Truth Social.
According to him, any peace agreement with Iran will be concluded on the condition of the US and in accordance with its schedule. “The deal will be concluded only if it is appropriate and beneficial for the US, our allies, and, essentially, the rest of the world,” he wrote.
D. Trump said on Wednesday that there is “no timeframe” for ending the war and “no pressure of time” regarding the ceasefire regime extended on Tuesday, which has led the negotiations into a deadlock.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that Tehran does not have a “clear deadline” for submitting a proposal for a peace agreement with Washington.
