Almaty, April 23 /Xinhua/ — An event dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day, as well as the launch of the project “Joint Spring Reading: Let’s Read Together,” took place on Thursday at the “Prometheus” international school in the Kazakh city of Almaty.
The event organizers included the Consulate General of the PRC in Almaty, jointly with the publishing house “Eastern Literature” and the bookstore “Meloman.”
The Consul General of the PRC in Almaty, Su Fanqiu, noted in his speech that reading is not only a source of knowledge but also a path to personal growth, spiritual enrichment, and self-improvement.
“This project will become a kind of reading relay that will last throughout the year and turn into a cultural bridge connecting people, countries, and traditions. I sincerely hope that participating in this project will not only strengthen the love for reading but also allow one to feel the rich history of China more deeply through the pages of books, discover its multifaceted nature and beauty for oneself, and thus truly understand Chinese culture and get closer to it,” emphasized the diplomat.
“Today’s meeting is not just an event, but also another step towards strengthening the friendship between our peoples. Through education, culture, and communication, we build bridges of mutual understanding and respect,” noted Gulzat Aimuganbetova, the academic director of the “Prometheus” school.
At the event, schoolchildren and students of Almaty shared their experiences of reading and cultural perspectives on classical and contemporary masterpieces of Chinese literature.
Combining online and offline formats, the project “Joint Spring Reading: Let’s Read Together” is designed to attract as many young people as possible to participate, promoting the further strengthening of cultural dialogue and interaction between the youth of China and Kazakhstan.
