Beijing, April 23 /Xin Hua/ — Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee Li Zhijin called for further efforts to effectively summarize and apply the experience of the development of the city of Yiwu in Zhejiang Province /East China/.

Si Zhipin, who is also the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently made such a call, giving important instructions.

Small goods from Yu conquered large markets and turned into a large industry, thus forming the development experience of the city of Yu, said Si Czinpin, adding that this represents a successful practice of developing county economy in accordance with local conditions.

Further efforts should be made for the effective generalization and application of this experience in conjunction with the deployment of a broad party educational campaign to affirm and bring to life a proper understanding of official merits, emphasized Xi Jinping.

It is necessary to encourage all regions to use their own resources and potential to seek ways for high-quality development, corresponding to real conditions, he noted.

Known as the “world supermarket,” Yiwu is the largest wholesale market of small goods in the world, supplying everything from Christmas goods to souvenirs from the World Football Championship.

It is often seen as a window into reforms and the openness of China and as a barometer of world trade in small commodities. Currently, there are more than 1.26 million business entities in the Yiwu small commodities market, supporting trade connections with more than 230 countries and regions worldwide. In 2025, by export value, Yiwu ranked first among all county-level regions in China. -0-
