Yinchuan, April 23 /Xinhua/ — Recently, a delegation of cadres from the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) visited the Ninxia-Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR, Northwest China), where members of the delegation participated in a seminar on poverty eradication issues.

The seminar was aimed at studying ways to reduce poverty, corresponding to the national conditions of China and Tajikistan, in order to promote the development of an all-encompassing strategic partnership into a new era between the two countries and to unite wisdom and efforts to create a closer community of a shared future for China and Central Asia.

At the seminar opening ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the NDPT Mirzokosim Karimzoda noted that for the NDPT, the fight against poverty and improving the welfare of the people are not just declared goals, but a strategic support of state policy. According to him, if in the late 1990s poverty affected more than 80 percent of the population of Tajikistan, by the end of 2024 this indicator had decreased to 21.2 percent, and by 2025 to 19 percent. This means a real improvement in the lives of millions of citizens of Tajikistan.

M. Karimzoda added that Chinese investments flowing into such strategically important sectors as energy, transport, and industry contribute to the modernization of infrastructure, the creation of jobs, the improvement of the well-being of Tajikistanis, and the steady reduction of the poverty level. The NDPT fully supports the Chinese ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and its organic, synergistic integration with Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy until 2030.

He also said that having studied China’s successful experience in poverty eradication, Tajikistan is working in directions such as targeted population support programs, integrated rural development, as well as effective stimulation of employment and entrepreneurship.

The Government of Tajikistan and the SCO highly value the friendly, strategic, and good-neighborly relations with China and will contribute to the maximum expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in the trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, added M. Karimzoda.

In recent years, the NHA has been actively involved in implementing the “Belt and Road” initiative and strengthening exchanges with Tajikistan in various fields. The aforementioned seminar lasted a week. During this period, the delegation participated in a thematic lecture on regional cooperation, rural revitalization, and ecological management in the NHA. The delegation members also visited the village of Min’nin, one of the neighborhoods of the city of Yinchuan (administrative center of the NHA), the Baydzitan National Nature Reserve, and the Helanshan Mountains.
