Washington, April 23 /Xinhua/ — The U.S. State Department on Wednesday called on American citizens in Iran to leave the country following the partial reopening of the Islamic Republic’s airspace.
In a message on social networks, the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs urged Americans to closely monitor news on local media and contact commercial airlines for information about flight cancellations.
The department noted that US citizens can also travel overland to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan, and warned against traveling to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the Pakistan-Iran border area.
Iran closed its airspace on February 28 after the start of the joint attacks by the USA and Israel.
On April 18, the country once again opened the eastern part of its airspace for international flights, which partially allowed the airport to resume operations.
In a Sunday report, the IRIB TV channel reported, citing a senior representative of the Iran Civil Aviation Organization, that the country’s airspace will be opened in four stages. –0–
