Beijing, April 23 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday in Beijing, the presentation of the Blue Book dedicated to the sustainable development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place. The publication was released jointly by the China Institutes of International Studies (CIIS) and the Chinese Center for SCO Studies.
In this book, titled “Sustainable Development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Joint Construction of a Better Home,” the latest achievements and results of cooperation in the field of sustainable development of the SCO are systematically summarized.
The Blue Book consists of three parts, namely an introduction and two sections: “The Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Action: Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development” and “Foreign Experts’ View: Progress in Cooperation and Expectations.”
The Blue Book notes that the SCO has achieved fruitful results in the areas of poverty reduction, education, green development, digital economy, interconnectivity, vocational education, cross-border e-commerce, and energy cooperation, bringing strong energy to the development of the countries in the region.
It is worth noting that the new Blue Book contains not only articles by Chinese experts, but also articles written by well-known experts and scientists from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and others.
As stated at the presentation of the book by the director of the Institute of Eurasian Studies of the Chinese Academy of International Problems Li Czig, currently, the countries of the SCO face tasks of national revival and modernization. In addition, the SCO countries also jointly face non-traditional security challenges such as climate change, information security, food security, and energy security.
In this context, sustainable development should become one of the most promising areas of cooperation between SCO countries, said Li Ziqi, who is also the responsible secretary of the Chinese Center for SCO Studies.
Experts present at the event agreed that green and sustainable development is an inevitable path for the development of the entire human society. In their opinion, the SCO should continue to pay close attention to the agendas in the field of sustainable development, continuously propose new initiatives, and implement projects in the area of pragmatic cooperation to provide reliable support for the promotion of socio-economic transformations and the achievement of higher-quality development in the region.
