Phnom Penh, April 22 /Xinhua/ — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a meeting on Wednesday in the capital Phnom Penh with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Wang Yi, and the Minister of Defense of the PRC, Wu Qian, at which he expressed his intention to deepen bilateral relations and cooperation.

Van I and Dun Cziun arrived in Cambodia to participate in the first meeting of the mechanism of the China-Cambodia strategic dialogue in the “2+2” format between the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the two countries.

As Khuun Manet indicated, Cambodia firmly adheres to a friendly policy towards China and unwaveringly follows the one-China principle.

According to him, the Cambodian side hopes for closer contacts with the Chinese side at a high level, the expansion of institutionalized dialogue, deepening practical cooperation in areas such as clean energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and the training of qualified personnel.

The Prime Minister stated that the Cambodian side welcomes investments from Chinese enterprises in Cambodia, is resolutely combating online gambling and telecommunications fraud, and expects to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in this area.

Cambodia is ready to implement close coordination and interaction with the UN on a multilateral platform in order to jointly advocate for multilateralism, emphasized Hun Manet.

Van I, in turn, stated that under the conditions of the tense and chaotic external situation of China and Cambodia, it is more necessary than ever to strengthen cohesion and interaction.

The head of the MID called for unwavering deepening of strategic trust, promotion of comprehensive cooperation, facilitation of development, uplift, and long-term stability of each of the countries.

He stated that the parties necessarily support contacts at a high level, jointly promote the construction of the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor” to help Cambodia increase the potential for independent development.

The parties must decisively suppress and completely eradicate cross-border online gambling and telecommunications fraud, Van I pointed out, also calling on the parties to firmly support each other in international multilateral affairs and to honestly and fairly defend integrity and justice.

Dun Cjun described the cooperation between the defense departments of China and Cambodia.

Hun Manet in a meeting also informed about the situation with the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, thanking the Chinese side for their efforts in facilitating negotiations and expressing hope that China will play an even greater role in this.

Van I stated that the Chinese side is ready to provide new platforms for renewing contacts and direct dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand.
