Phnom Penh, April 22 /Xinhua/ — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a meeting on Wednesday in the capital of the country, Phnom Penh, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Wan Yi and the Minister of Defense of the PRC Dun Cjunem, during which he declared the intention to deepen bilateral ties and cooperation.
Van I and Dun Cziyun arrived in Cambodia to participate in the first meeting of the Chinese-Cambodian strategic dialogue in the “2+2” format between the ministers of foreign affairs and the ministers of defense of the two countries.
As Khun Manet indicated, Cambodia firmly adheres to a friendly policy towards China and unwaveringly observes the One China principle.
According to him, the Cambodian side hopes for closer contacts with the Chinese side at a high level, the expansion of institutionalized dialogue, deepening practical cooperation in such areas as clean energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and the training of qualified personnel.
The Prime Minister stated that the Cambodian side welcomes investments from Chinese enterprises in Cambodia, is resolutely fighting against online gambling and telecommunications fraud, and plans to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in this area.
Cambodia is ready to carry out close coordination and cooperation with the PRC on multilateral platforms such as the UN to jointly defend multilateralism, emphasized Hun Manet.
Van I also stated that under the conditions of the tense and chaotic external situation of China and Cambodia, it is more necessary than ever to strengthen cohesion and cooperation.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for unwavering deepening of strategic mutual trust, promoting comprehensive cooperation, and contributing to the development, rise, and long-term stability of each of the countries.
He stated that the parties need to maintain high-level contacts and jointly promote the construction of the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor” to help Cambodia enhance its potential for independent development.
The parties must decisively suppress and completely eradicate cross-border online gambling and telecommunications fraud, Van I indicated, also calling on the parties to firmly support each other in international multilateral affairs and to consistently uphold honesty and justice.
Dun Cjun told about the cooperation between the defense departments of China and Cambodia.
Khun Manet at the meeting also informed about the situation with the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, thanking the Chinese side for their efforts to facilitate the negotiations and expressing hope that the PRC will play an even greater role in this.
Van I stated that the Chinese side is ready to provide new platforms for renewing contacts and direct dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand. –0–
