Saint Petersburg, April 22 /Sina/ — On Wednesday, the Russian International Energy Forum began work in Saint Petersburg, at which the main vectors of energy development in the coming years are discussed.
Participants of the plenary session held on the same day on the topic “Development of energy in 2026-2031: how to achieve balance?” discussed mechanisms for ensuring the affordability of tariffs for the population while maintaining the economic sustainability of the sector, sources of financing for network reconstruction programs. Special attention was given to the search for a technological balance between traditional and renewable energy, taking into account regional specifics.
As noted by Alexey Zhigarev, director of the Russian Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, over the past 10 years the role of renewable energy sources in Russia has grown significantly /VIE/. Thus, by 2025, about 60 percent of the introduced electric generation capacity will correspond to VIE facilities.
Forum participants noted the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of experience in the development of energy. According to the director for energy market development and energy trading of the Siberian generating company Anton Danilov, the most actively developing power generation system has now formed in China, where the average age of generation facilities is 13 years. In Russia, this age is 37 years, and there is a trend towards the gradual obsolescence of equipment, therefore the country needs growth in investments in this sector.
An international specialized exhibition “Energy and Electrical Engineering” opened alongside the forum. This year, more than 140 companies from Russia, Belarus, and China are demonstrating their relevant developments. The exhibition showcases heat exchange equipment, cable products, power engineering, transformers, automation systems, control, and safety.
The forum, taking place from April 22 to 24, serves as a platform for dialogue among authorities, business, and the expert community on issues of energy development, innovation implementation, and the search for effective solutions to modern industry challenges. Specialists from the industry, representatives of science, authorities, and business from Russia and foreign countries gathered at the forum. Dozens of events are planned within its framework, including panel sessions, round tables, negotiations, and meetings.
