Within the framework of the Council on Youth Policy in Polite, a meeting was held with students and the professor of the Higher School of Physics and Materials Technology of IMMIT, a metallurgist scientist, a specialist in the field of ecology of metallurgical production, Irina Butorina.

Irina Butorina grew up in Mariupol and worked there for 30 years at the Priazovsky State Technical University. In Mariupol, she was engaged in public activities: she fought for the cleanliness of the environment, since ecology in the region suffered due to metallurgical production.
Irina Butorina began writing already after moving to Saint Petersburg. The first published novel was the trilogy “Caucasian Romance.” It tells about three generations of one family and is connected with the Chechen War. The novel made a strong impression on readers. It is liked by women and men of different nationalities. People who lived through those events noted that everything in the trilogy is described accurately and realistically.
The book “To Odessa for the May holidays. A Non-Resort Novel” was published in 2015. In 2025, this work became the winner of the annual national competition “Book of the Year,” established by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
After this, Irina Butorina released further novels “Exploded Donbass” and “Mariupol Tragedy.” This trilogy tells about the civil war in Ukraine. The author also published several lyrical works — “Seeing Off the Era,” “Hello, It’s You,” and “Handsome,” as well as an “Ecological Poem,” which tells about the fate of an ecologist in an industrial city.
In addition, Irina Butorina travels a lot. She even published her travel notes: “Noah’s Ark of the 21st Century” and “On the Roads of Dreams.”
At the meeting, students learned more about her work, community service, and her views on the current political situation.
