Kyiv, April 22 /Sinyua/ — On Wednesday, Ukraine resumed oil transit through the “Druzhba” pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia. This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency citing an informed source.
“At 12:35 the oil transit was launched, pumping started,” the agency’s interlocutor stated.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the country has completed repair work on the damaged section of the “Druzhba” pipeline. He also expressed hope that this would allow the unlocking of the European aid package to Ukraine worth 90 billion euros.
The “Druzhba” oil pipeline is a major pipeline system through which Russia supplies oil to Central and Eastern Europe. After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, the European Union introduced a partial embargo on the import of fossil fuels from the Russian Federation; however, the restrictions do not apply to supplies via the “Druzhba” oil pipeline.
At the end of January this year, the pipeline was damaged as a result of an airstrike, after which oil deliveries through it ceased. –0–
