Urumqi, April 22 /Xin Hua/ — On Tuesday, from the railway checkpoint Khorgos of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /PRC, Northwest China/, a China-Europe train loaded with auto parts for new energy sources and smart household appliances transportation departed for the German city of Duisburg. Thus, since the beginning of 2026, over 3 thousand China-Europe/Central Asia trains have passed through this checkpoint.

Since the beginning of the current year, the frequency of train arrivals through the Khorgos China-Europe/Central Asia corridor continues to grow, and the transshipment of cargo for each train arriving in China takes an average of 2 hours.

Continuous improvement in the efficiency of CPP operations contributes to the revival of import-export trade. According to data from one of the local forwarding companies, the advantages of rail freight transportation lie in low costs, convenient customs clearance, and high efficiency.

According to data, as of today more than 55 thousand trains have passed through the Khorgos railway border crossing on routes linking China-Europe/Central Asia. Currently, 91 routes for international freight transportation between China-Europe and China-Central Asia pass through the Khorgos ICBC, connecting Khorgos with 18 foreign countries. The assortment of goods transported by these trains includes more than 200 names.

Recall that for 6 consecutive years, the average annual number of China-Europe/Central Asia trains passing through the China-Kazakhstan railway border crossing has remained above 10 thousand units. In 2025, the Xinjiang KP Alashankou and Khorgos handled 18 thousand China-Europe/Central Asia trains, which is 7.4% more on an annual basis. At the same time, the cargo turnover through them amounted to 32.1 million tons with a growth of 12.1%.
