Beirut, April 20 /Sin Hua/ — Bilateral negotiations between Lebanon and Israel will be conducted by a Lebanese delegation headed by Lebanon’s former ambassador to the USA, Simon Karam. This was reported on Monday by the office of the Lebanese president.

As clarified by the chancellery on the social network X, the goal of the negotiations is to stop the hostilities, end the Israeli occupation of the southern regions of Lebanon, and deploy the Lebanese army on the internationally recognized southern border of the country.

“No one else will participate on behalf of Lebanon or replace him in this mission,” emphasized the chancellery.

The department added that the upcoming negotiations are not related to any other negotiation processes, describing the situation as a choice between a protracted war with its humanitarian, social, and economic costs and costs to sovereignty on one side, and a settlement through negotiations with the other side.

Meanwhile, the official National Information Agency of Lebanon reported on Monday about violations of the ceasefire regime between Lebanon and Israel by the Israeli side, which shelled the surroundings of the settlement of Houla in the southern border area of Lebanon with artillery.
