Tehran, April 20 /Xinhua/ — Tehran does not plan to participate in a new round of negotiations with the United States. This was stated on Monday by the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei.
Speaking at the weekly press conference, E. Bagai stated that the actions taken by the United States in no way indicate seriousness in advancing the diplomatic process. As the diplomat noted, since the entry into force on April 8 of the ceasefire regime, “we have been facing violations of promises and nitpicking on the part of the USA.”
The United States asserted that the ceasefire in Lebanon is not part of the agreement to stop the firing, while Pakistani mediators clearly indicated the opposite, reminded E. Bagai, adding that after reaching an understanding on this issue “we faced actions in the Hormuz Strait, which they called a ‘naval blockade.'”
E. Bagai also mentioned the attack on the Iranian merchant ship that occurred earlier on Monday, which, according to him, can also be regarded as a violation of the ceasefire regime.
An official representative of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that, according to United Nations General Assembly resolutions, the blockade of maritime waters and ports of any country constitutes an act of aggression. According to him, Iran will make a balanced and inevitable decision on further actions, guided by the sole main criterion — the protection of the interests of the Iranian nation.
As E. Bagai stated, the issue of Iran transferring its enriched uranium was never considered as an option or at any negotiations. He indicated that it is absolutely important for Iran to preserve its achievements in the nuclear, industrial, and scientific fields.
