Almaty, April 20 /Xin Hua/ — In the situation of instability in the Middle East, China’s attempts to bring the parties of the conflict to the negotiating table, stop the military escalation in the region, and develop mechanisms for peaceful settlement demonstrate the concern of the CPC about the further development of the situation in the Middle East, which is consistent with the foundations laid within the framework of the four Chinese global initiatives. This opinion was expressed in his article by Yerkin Baidarov, chief researcher at the Center for the Study of China and the Asia-Pacific Region of the R. B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies.

In this situation, as E. Baidarov writes, China’s proposals for promoting peace and stability in the region, which include four points — adherence to the principle of peaceful coexistence, observance of the principle of national sovereignty, defense of rights at the international level, and ensuring development and security based on unified planning — acquire important significance.

As the expert believes, the call to observe the principle of peaceful coexistence aligns with the initiative of global civilization, since the countries of the Middle East are interdependent and inseparable neighbors, mostly professing one religion, and the culture closely intertwined within a unified Islamic civilization. Such an approach to understanding the past and future can help all countries of the region improve relations and contribute to the formation of a common, comprehensive architecture based on cooperation and a sustainable security architecture in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.

The importance of respecting the principle of national sovereignty, E. Baydarov continues, has a direct connection to the Initiative on Global Security, since the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the countries of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf demand unconditional respect. The security of personnel, objects, and institutions in all countries depends on observing this principle as a whole.

Defending sovereignty rights at the international level, according to the scholar, is connected with the Initiative for Global Development, as it calls to prevent the world from returning to the “law of the jungle.” A strong protection of the international system and norms of international law is the foundation of the global development of a community of solidarity nations.

The initiative for global governance leads us to the fourth point — security within the framework of global governance ensures further development, and development helps maintain security, emphasizes E. Baidarov. Only by working according to this principle is the creation of favorable conditions for the development of the countries of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf possible.

Thus, the proposals to promote peace and stability in the Middle East from the Chinese side once again demonstrate that China, despite resistance to the peace process in the region, remains ready to assist the countries of the Middle East in strengthening the foundation of regional development and security, the expert concludes. –0–
