On October 16, fourth-year students of the ‘Transport Process Technology’ program visited the facilities of the ‘Lakhta Center’ complex. The tour was part of the preparation for the VI International Competition of Student Projects for the Promotion of World Cultural Heritage Sites. The students were accompanied by an associate professor of the Department of Transport Systems and Road and Bridge Construction, a candidate of technical sciences. Anton Ignatov.

Participants are to develop a project in the nomination “Movement: transport and pedestrian infrastructure – an image of a continuous route that unites the urban environment.” According to the competition rules, it is necessary to propose a concept of pedestrian, water, bicycle, and other routes that will connect the high-rise cluster with existing urban attractions, cultural heritage sites, and park areas within the competition territory. Special attention should be paid to the connectivity of the routes with the embankments.

During the tour, students learned about the history of the complex’s construction, plans for building the skyscrapers “Lakhta Center 2” and “Lakhta Center 3,” as well as prospects for extending the metro line and constructing new stations. From the complex’s observation deck, participants were able to assess the location of nearby facilities and points of interest, which will help in developing transport and pedestrian connections.

After the tour, the students asked the organizers clarifying questions and outlined directions for further work. Among the possible project solutions are the organization of pedestrian and bicycle routes, as well as the construction of a pedestrian bridge towards the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg Park.

The project work is focused on finding modern urban planning solutions that will unlock the potential of the Lakhta Center territory.
