The X International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament “Victory” dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia will be held at the Irina Viner Gymnastics Palace on October 17 and 18. More than a thousand young athletes aged five to 16 years from regions of the Russian Federation and 10 foreign countries will participate in the competition: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Turkmenistan, and Turkey.
In the anniversary year, the anniversary competition program will unite culture and sport for the first time. On October 18, spectators and guests of the tournament will see the premiere of a play directed by Zarina Mukhitdinova, dedicated to the life of the outstanding wrestler Ivan Poddubny and timed to coincide with the 155th anniversary of his birth. The main role in the production will be played by Russian athlete and actor Oleg Taktarov.
Participants and guests of the tournament will also be able to visit an art exhibition dedicated to sports, play checkers and chess with robots in the interactive zone of the “Robot Corporation,” and meet their favorite characters from the “Soyuzmultfilm” animation studio. In addition, there will be open lectures where attendees will be told how spaces for major sporting events are created in Russia and other countries around the world.
During the competition days, the media screens at the Irina Viner Gymnastics Palace will feature an exhibition telling about the participating countries—their culture, scientific discoveries, sports achievements, and prospects for cooperation.
The tournament will be attended by honored guests, including Olympic champions Alexander Karelin and Roman Vlasov, Russia’s Honored Coach Irina Viner, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili, as well as ambassadors and official representatives of the countries participating in the competition. Admission for spectators is free.
“The 10th anniversary ‘Victory’ tournament proves that the interest in the Russian school of Greco-Roman wrestling and our sporting traditions from the foreign community remains consistently high. In today’s realities, such competitions go far beyond judging protocols: they become an effective platform for strengthening interstate relations, cultural dialogue, and fostering mutual respect among the younger generation. The tournament format allows laying a solid foundation for long-term international cooperation in physical culture and youth sports. This year, the project has gone beyond traditional competitions, combining wrestling matches, modern technologies, and high art on one stage. Here, wrestlers not only compete but also communicate, learn from their opponents, and discover each other’s traditions. This format helps nurture an open and versatile generation,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Regional Security and Information Policy.
The competition is organized by the ANO “Victory League” with the support of the capital Department of Sports. The tournament has been held since 2023, during which more than seven thousand wrestlers have taken the mat.
The event aligns with the objectives of the Russian Federation’s state programs “Development of Physical Culture and Sports” and “Sport of Russia” and the information campaign “Motivation for Sports Participation and Promotion of Sports Infrastructure.” One of their objectives is to increase the proportion of citizens regularly engaged in physical culture and sports to 70 percent by 2030. In the capital, special attention is paid to pedestrian accessibility of infrastructure, support for families with children, as well as the integration of participants and veterans of the special military operation and their family members into the sports community.
