Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov. The main topics were the development of tourism, cooperation in the fields of sports and education.

“Congratulations on your successful victory in the elections! Ahead lies the implementation of all planned goals. As President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin emphasizes, our relations are friendly and allied in nature, and your activities will contribute to their further development. South Ossetia has enormous potential in areas such as tourism, sports, education, and youth policy. Thanks to the state program for socio-economic development, we will help to nurture these sectors,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister invited the delegation of South Ossetia to participate in the International Tourism Forum “Travel!”, which will be held from June 10 to 14, 2027 in Moscow at VDNH.

“We don’t need to invent ways to interest people. We have mountains, history, nature, culture, places that are truly worth visiting. Our task is to make it convenient for tourists to get here, to have places to stay, destinations to visit, and reasons to return again. At the same time, what is important for the republic is not just the growth of tourist flow. Tourism must create jobs, provide additional demand for local products, and open new opportunities for small businesses and districts of the republic. Therefore, we need an integrated model for the development of the industry—from infrastructure and accommodation stock to service and new routes,” noted Marat Kambolov.

The President of South Ossetia added that Russian industry experts are planned to be involved in developing a long-term tourism development model. Their task will be to prepare proposals for the formation of a comprehensive strategy for the South Ossetian tourist cluster, taking into account the possibilities of its integration into Russia’s tourist infrastructure and routes.

Another direction of joint work will be the development of sports infrastructure.

Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that athletes from the republic participate in Russian competitions and demonstrate high results. For example, this year at the interregional swimming tournament in the city of Nalchik, the South Ossetia team won 43 medals. Also, athletes from the republic returned with medals from the Russian freestyle wrestling championship.

The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that from October 21 to 23, 2026, the International Sports Forum “Russia – a Sporting Power” will be held in Krasnoyarsk, and invited the delegates of South Ossetia to participate in it.

By order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, about 300 teachers of South Ossetia in Russian language and literature, Ossetian language and literature receive payments.

Additionally, Russia provides support in equipping classrooms and supplies textbooks. For example, in September, equipment was handed over to the Tskhinvali Medical College named after V.N. Karsanov.

“We will jointly develop projects in the field of education. Our universities are already actively cooperating, federal children’s centers involved in the implementation of the national project ‘Youth and Children’ are hosting your children for rest and wellness. I would like to specially thank the South Ossetian delegation for their participation in the International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg. I am confident that active knowledge and experience exchange will help provide broad opportunities for realizing the potential and developing the talents of the young generation of Russia and South Ossetia,” emphasized Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“It is important for us to build a system that will provide children and young people in South Ossetia access to modern quality education at all stages – from school to obtaining a profession. This involves training teachers, equipping educational institutions, joint educational programs, and closer cooperation with leading Russian universities. We want to bring these directions together into a single comprehensive project with clear objectives and a concrete outcome for our children,” said Marat Kambolov.
