One of the objectives of the national project “Infrastructure for Life” is the modernization of road and transport infrastructure and improving traffic safety. For this purpose, roads are being built and repaired across the country, and educational activities are being conducted. One of these is the All-Russian online Olympiad “Safe Roads,” aimed at enhancing the road literacy of schoolchildren. In the first three weeks, more than 4 million children from all over the country participated. The Olympiad will continue until October 25, announced Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Caring for children is not just words, but concrete actions. To help a young road user feel confident, we are simultaneously updating the road and transport infrastructure and conducting educational work. This year, road workers are bringing over 3,300 km of school routes into order. At the same time, the All-Russian online olympiad ‘Safe Roads’ continues: over 4 million schoolchildren joined it within three weeks. We see that this format is in demand, so we will continue to develop this work under the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life’,” said Marat Khusnullin.
During the olympiad, participants examine real road situations to learn how to cross the street safely, why reflective elements are necessary, how to ride a scooter or bicycle without injuries, and what road signs mean.
“Prevention of child road traffic injuries is an activity aimed at changing the behavior of all road users, including the youngest ones. To reduce the level of accidents involving children, conversations and warnings alone are not enough. Therefore, the State Traffic Inspectorate is betting also on interactive formats that allow a child not just to memorize the rules but to experience a road situation in a safe environment. The All-Russian Olympiad “Safe Roads” is one such format. I am convinced: the earlier a child learns to ‘read’ the road and make the right decisions, the better,” said Lieutenant General of Police Mikhail Chernikov, head of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Road workers are laying asphalt, renewing pedestrian zones and sidewalks, installing barriers, tactile tiles, lighting, and traffic lights, as well as speed bumps. Work is being carried out across the country.
Thus, in the Samara region, 84 km of roads leading to schools are being repaired this year. Preventive measures are being conducted for schoolchildren. For example, the regional campaign “Attention, children! Road to school!”, during which a competition of young traffic inspector squads of the Samara region took place. The children competed in knowledge of traffic rules.
Schoolchildren in the Samara region also take part in the online olympiad “Safe Roads.” Already, 129,000 kids have tested their road safety knowledge. The tasks are updated annually, so participants from previous years are interested in taking part again.
In the Chechen Republic, in Grozny, the bridge on Leningradskaya Street was repaired. It provides access to School No. 106. Aydamirova Street, which also has a school, was reconstructed. Special attention was paid to student safety: in addition to replacing the asphalt, pedestrian crossings were arranged, signs were installed, and markings were applied.
In the republic, preventive measures are also being conducted using the “Safety Laboratory.” This mobile complex allows interactive sessions with schoolchildren: they listen to a lecture, analyze real traffic situations, and practice behavior algorithms on special simulators.
Chechen schoolchildren actively participate in the “Safe Roads” olympiad. Over three weeks, 74 thousand schoolchildren tested their knowledge of traffic rules.
In the Tula region, 23 km of roads leading to educational institutions were repaired by the beginning of the school year. New road surfaces, sidewalks, and modern road infrastructure appeared in Tula and Alekhin, as well as in the Venevsky, Kireevsky, and Uzlovsky districts. In particular, in Tula, a 1.5-kilometer section of Galkina Street, leading to Lyceum No. 2 and Education Center No. 7, was repaired.
Special attention is given to the arrangement of pedestrian crossings: fences are installed at the sites, warning traffic lights with a flashing yellow signal, traffic light objects with a call phase, and artificial road bumps. Projection pedestrian crossings are also arranged. This year, work has been carried out at more than 50 sites—in the Suvorovsky, Kireyevsky, and Uzlovsky districts, as well as in Novomoskovsk.
For the sixth consecutive year, the regional Ministry of Transport has been giving reflective backpacks to first graders in the region. About 16,000 children receive them annually. This year, nearly 73,000 schoolchildren in the region participated in the online Olympiad “Safe Roads.”
The All-Russian online olympiad “Safe Roads” is being held for the seventh time—from September 22 to October 25. Its total audience is over 27 million people. The organizers of the initiative are the Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the educational platform “Uchi.ru,” and the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “National Priorities” with the support of the national project “Infrastructure for Life.”
