The Ecology Foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences summarizes the results of the third season of the educational poster session on microplastics: geography expands, the audience grows
On the eve of Ecology Knowledge Day, the RSCHB “Ecology” Foundation presents the interim results of systematic work within the framework of the “Eco-Education” project. The goal of the project is to improve the level of ecological literacy among Russians. One of the most significant events of the project is the placement of a thematic poster session dedicated to the problem of microplastics and polymers in higher educational institutions of Moscow and other cities. This event has been held for the third year already.
The spread of microplastics has become one of the most serious environmental problems of our time: microparticles are found in soil, water, air, and even in the human body. The poster session demonstrates key information on the following directions:
– microplastic education;
– volumes of microplastic and polymer production;
– the impact of microplastics on the environment and the human organism.
The list of universities hosting the poster session “Truth and Myths about the Microplastics Problem” on their campuses increases every year. Thus, in 2024, the exhibition was held at 5 universities: NIU VShE, MGIMO, RUDN, RGAU-MSHA named after K.A. Timiryazev in Moscow, as well as NOVGU in Veliky Novgorod.
In 2025, the number of universities hosting the poster session increased to 7: Lomonosov Moscow State University, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NIU), Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Sergi Ordzhonikidze Russian State Geological Prospecting University (MGRI), Russian State Social University, Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA), and D.I. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. In total, more than 40 thousand Moscow students attended the exhibition during the year. In 2026, it is planned to increase the number of universities.
In the first 3 months of this year, the poster session has already taken place at RGPU, the State University of Education (“Prosveshchenie”), and is currently being held at REU named after G.V. Plekhanov. Next time, the event will take place at the ROSBIOTECH University campus.
Additional interest in the poster session arose within the framework of the upcoming Vuzekofest. The organization of the photo exhibition during the festival days gives educational institutions the opportunity to vividly and clearly present their cooperation with the Ecology Fund, attracting the attention of students, teachers, and event guests.
Educational events are not limited to poster sessions. Lectures on microplastics were held at the Russian State Geological Prospecting University of Oil and Gas named after I. M. Gubkin, in the Botanical Garden of the city of Cheboksary, in an online format for the ecological council of school No. 11 in the city of Tuapse in 2025, and in-person for students from various schools and ecological councils of the city of Tuapse in 2026.
“Environmental education and the involvement of Russians in practical initiatives are our priority since 2023. Acknowledging the growing public interest in environmental protection issues, we strive to scale up successful practices. We invite all interested parties to join our initiatives and apply to host a poster session and conduct lectures!”, said Elmira Morozova, Director of the “Ecology” Foundation of the Russian Agricultural Bank (RSKH).
