Since the beginning of the year, specialists urban economy complex about 1.3 million gas stoves installed in Muscovites’ apartments were checked. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
“From January to September, the operability and compliance with safety requirements of almost 1.3 million gas stoves installed in apartments were checked. Minor faults identified by the gas service specialists are rectified on site. When serious violations are found, the threat to safety is first eliminated, followed by recommendations for further operation and repair,” noted Petr Biryukov.
The owner or tenant of the dwelling is responsible for the maintenance and replacement of the gas equipment in the apartment.
As explained by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow, the service life of a gas stove is on average 10–12 years. After this period, the gas valves wear out, burner diffusers become deformed, and the oven insulation is compromised. It is impossible to maintain the safe operation of such appliances — replacement is necessary. Additionally, a gas stove must be equipped with a gas control system that stops the gas supply if the flame in the burner goes out.
Gas safety issues in Moscow are under special control. Every year, specialists carry out scheduled maintenance of all gasified residential housing stock in the capital.
The dates and times of inspections are published in advance on the website of JSC “Mosgaz”, as well as on information boards in the entrances and courtyards of apartment buildings.
