At PJSC “NEFAZ”, a subsidiary of “KAMAZ” in Bashkortostan, a “Best Mentor” competition was held. The event was conducted for the first time and aimed at the systematic development of the mentorship institution, recognizing the value of mentors’ work, and enhancing the prestige of this role.
Employees of PJSC “NEFAZ” who have been with the company for at least a year and have no labor discipline violations were eligible to participate in the competition. The assessment of candidates was based on a transparent scoring system, taking into account several indicators: how many newcomers the mentor trained and how many of them continue to work at the plant, whether the mentor himself attended courses and training sessions, participated in projects and competitions, how actively he engaged in methodological work, as well as what awards and commendations he received during his employment.
Special emphasis in the selection procedure was placed on the practical component. If several participants scored the same number of points, an additional stage was organized following the methodology of standardized on-the-job training. The mentor was required to conduct training according to a clear four-step instruction: introduce the new employee to the workplace, thoroughly explain the operation, allow them to perform it in a trial mode, and then monitor the result and decide on admission to independent work. The commission evaluated each step on a five-point scale, and the final result was calculated as the arithmetic mean. The quality of the practical task performance was decisive in determining the winner in case of a tie in points.
The winner of the first competition was Dmitry Mikhailov, a CNC machine operator from mechanical assembly workshop No. 6. He has been working at PJSC NEFAZ since 2022 and successfully trained three new workers over the past year. An important advantage for Dmitry Mikhailov over his competitor (locksmith-electrician from workshop No. 29, Alfred Makhmutov) was his participation in the professional skills contest, as well as the high quality of his practical assignment execution. These factors together allowed him to take first place and earn the title of “Best Mentor.” The contest leader received an honorary diploma and a valuable prize.
