A ten-day internship was held at the Engineering and Construction Institute of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University for second-year undergraduate students specializing in “Civil Engineering” and “Technosphere Safety,” as well as for teachers from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. The internship was organized with the support of SPbPU’s international services.

The delegation included Deputy Director of the Department of International Relations Danhe Chen, Dean of the Institute of Security Science and Technology Ke Zhao, Associate Professor of the Institute of Security Science and Technology Feng Xiao, Academic Coordinator of the Institute of Security Science and Technology Inying Miao, as well as students from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. The curator of the delegation was Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Hydraulic and Energy Construction of ISI, responsible for the institute’s international activities, Mikhail Romanov.

The internship program included an introduction to the scientific and educational infrastructure of the university: the guests visited the campus, the History Museum of SPbPU, the digital technologies laboratory “MetaCampus Polytech” at ISI, the supercomputer center “Polytechnic,” and the materials science laboratory in the Research Building. Senior Lecturer of the Higher School of Industrial-Civil and Road Construction at ISI, Alexandra Zatsepina, gave a lecture to Nanjing University students titled “Contemporary Architecture of Saint Petersburg.”

The internship program also included a visit to the ISI basic department ‘Fire Safety’ at LLC ‘Gefest.’ Representatives of Nanjing University were informed about the scientific research in the field of fire safety conducted under the guidance of the head of the basic department Olga Zybina and associate professor of VSHPGiDS ISI Marina Gravit. The guests were shown a live experiment on extinguishing a lithium-ion battery fire.

With representatives of the Higher School of Technosphere Safety at ISI, the guests discussed opportunities for academic mobility, the organization of joint scientific conferences, and cooperation in the field of material combustion research. The delegation visited the life safety laboratory, where an interactive session on measuring illumination levels in a production workshop using VR technologies was organized for the students.

An important part of the internship was the cultural program organized by the youth activists of PROF.ISI. Russian and Chinese students painted masks together, danced to Russian folk music, and drank tea with traditional sweets.

The students also got acquainted with the cultural heritage of St. Petersburg: they strolled through the historic city center, visited the State Hermitage Museum, and Peterhof.

The internship concluded with a meeting with the leadership of the Engineering and Construction Institute, where the ISI director Marina Petrochenko spoke about its structure, research directions, and opportunities. Participants discussed prospects for creating a joint laboratory in the field of technosphere safety.

In a solemn ceremony, members of the delegation were presented with certificates of internship completion and commemorative gifts.
