Employees of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in Moscow will be able to learn the principles of working with artificial intelligence (AI) for free and receive a digital assistant for working with documents and information. The project “AI Academy for NPOs” was prepared by Artem Petrov, director of ANO “Priority,” and his team. The initiative received support in the Moscow Mayor’s grant competition in the category “Civic Initiatives.”
Artem Petrov — winner of the sixth season of the “Leaders of Russia. Team” contest of the presidential platform “Russia is a land of opportunity”. The project launch is scheduled for January 2027, access to the service in the “Max” messenger and the web version will be available by the end of July.
Currently, the team is preparing to start work. As Artem Petrov noted, the AI Academy will combine two tasks: training employees of capital city NGOs and creating a free digital assistant. The service will be adapted to the daily tasks of organizations — from preparing grant applications and reports to writing texts for publications and creating work documents. In addition, users will be taught how to formulate queries and evaluate responses using examples from their own materials.
A distinctive feature of small NGOs is that the same people who organize events and assist beneficiaries also prepare applications, reports, and publications. To save time on learning a new service, the team combined its development with hands-on training.
“We saw several problems. People had heard about AI, many had even tried to use it, but did not know how to apply it specifically in the work of NGOs. For me, it is much more interesting to understand which work problem the technology can solve. It is important that developers do not create the product separately from the people who will later use it,” said Artem Petrov.
The digital assistant will be tailored to the specifics of the non-profit sector. For example, when preparing a grant application, the employee will specify the problem the organization is addressing, the target audience, and the planned activities. The service will help structure the text, point out underdeveloped sections, and check whether the declared results correspond to the goal and the work plan.
The service will be based on a specialized knowledge base. It will include grant competition requirements, regulatory documents, and templates. When generating responses, the system will rely on these materials, which will allow it to take into account the conditions under which NGO employees prepare projects and documents.
Artem Petrov explained that the person remains the author of the project and makes the final decision. According to him, AI in this model helps to work with information faster, see gaps, and reduce the time spent preparing the text. The task of AI is to eliminate some of the routine and give the employee the opportunity to focus more on the project itself.
Before the launch, the assistant will be tested on real non-profit organization tasks. It will also be able to assist with other everyday requests: preparing reports, publications, and letters, processing and summarizing information. During the training, participants will learn to evaluate AI responses, cross-check data with original sources, and determine when it is necessary to consult a relevant specialist.
The project’s educational program includes in-person seminars, which will take place at Moscow NGO coworking spaces from March to November 2027. Participants will practice drafting requests and will be able to analyze their own working materials. The lead instructor will be Artem Petrov: he has undergone special training and is engaged in implementing AI tools in organizational work.
Artem Petrov noted that participants will be able to practice on their own real texts, reports, projects, and informational materials. After the training, a person should understand which task to assign to AI, how to check the result, and how to integrate this tool into daily work.
Another direction will be online testing. At least one thousand representatives of the non-profit sector will be able to participate in it. The test will help assess the level of proficiency with digital tools and receive individual recommendations. Information about signing up for classes and access to the assistant will appear closer to the project’s launch on the organization’s resources, partner platforms, and in channel ANO “Priority” in the “Max” messenger, where all information will be available, as well as the AI assistant itself.
In the category “Assembled Management Teams” of the sixth season of the competition “Leaders of Russia. Team,” Artem Petrov performed together with colleagues from the non-profit sector, with whom he had previously organized public events. The team also included Denis Rybas, director of the ANO DPO “Center for the Development of Educational Programs and Technologies ‘Vector’,” and representatives of ANO “Committee of Families of Warriors of the Fatherland” Anastasia Skoryatina, Denis Skoryatin, and Marina Mokhnatkina. The participants distributed roles depending on the task, and decisions were discussed jointly.
Artem Petrov said that the experience of participating in “Leaders of Russia” was very useful, primarily from the point of view of teamwork, management, and communication with people engaged in various fields. The competition gave him additional managerial experience, professional contacts, and the opportunity to view his own projects from a broader perspective.
The management competition “Leaders of Russia” has been held since 2017 by order of the President of the Russian Federation.
