The project “Urban Planning Month — 70 Years at the Top” of the Moscow City Urban Planning Policy and Construction Complex became a laureate of the “Best Social Projects of Russia” competition in the category “Public Spaces.” The award ceremony took place on October 8. This was reported by Vladislav Ovchinsky, Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the city’s Department of Urban Development Policy.

The main goal of the program was to make the conversation about Moscow’s development clear and interesting to a wide audience, as well as to show how many specialists of different profiles participate in shaping the familiar appearance of the capital. For a month, residents and visitors of the city could learn more about large-scale projects, modern technologies, and the professions of architects, engineers, designers, and builders.

“Behind every district, street, park, and building stands a great deal of work by specialists from various fields. We wanted to showcase not only completed projects but also the people who create the urban environment. That is why the program combined exhibitions, tours, lectures, master classes, and interactive formats at various venues across Moscow. This approach helped to look at the familiar urban landscape in a new way and see how it has changed and continues to develop,” noted Vladislav Ovchinsky.

One of the key events was the multimedia exhibition “70 Years of Creation,” which took place at the Moscow Museum. Visitors could learn about the main stages of the capital’s development, as well as get acquainted with archival materials and modern urban planning projects. Thanks to interactive panels, light installations, and other digital formats, the complex processes of city development were presented in the form of visual stories.

An exhibition dedicated to the largest construction projects in the capital will open on August 1

The program extended beyond exhibition halls and united various urban spaces. Events took place at “Bread Factory No. 9,” in city parks, on pedestrian streets, and other public areas. Special attention was given to tours of iconic sites and places in Moscow. During these events, participants were able to see how districts evolved, how former industrial territories were transformed into modern urban spaces, and which specialists were involved in these transformations.

A large segment was devoted to education and familiarization with modern construction professions. Architects, urban planners, and industry specialists conducted lectures and master classes explaining how the urban environment is designed and what tasks representatives of various professions solve. Interactive activities were prepared for children, including those at the “Model of Moscow” pavilion at VDNH and the Museum of Moscow, as well as thematic kits and the publication “Moscow. The City That Was Built Together.”

In addition, the “Month of Urban Planning” program included photo exhibitions, quizzes, online quizzes, an architectural and construction dictation, film screenings, and thematic installations. Artistic and historical films about the construction industry were shown in summer cinemas, and lectures and meetings dedicated to architecture and city development were held in the summer studio of the “Moscow 24” TV channel. Thanks to the variety of formats, the program managed to attract both professionals and residents of the capital who had previously hardly encountered the topic of construction.

The “Best Social Projects of Russia” program has been held for over 13 years and recognizes initiatives in the field of corporate social responsibility. The award acknowledged a project that combined an educational program with city venues and made the history and current development challenges of Moscow accessible to a wide audience.
