Summer holidays became a time of rest, new acquaintances, and vivid impressions for the students of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. From early July to mid-September, summer sessions were held at the university’s regional wellness facilities: the “Polytechnic” bases in the village of Novomikhaylovsky in Krasnodar Krai and in the village of Gory in Leningrad Oblast, as well as at the educational and historical reserve “Gagarin A. G. Estate ‚Kholomki‘”. Each regional wellness facility offered its own style of recreation — from the sea coast to the quiet of a pine forest and the atmosphere of an old estate.
After an intense academic year, the students were able to change their usual rhythm, recover their energy, and spend part of the summer in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The camp program combined active recreation, creative and team activities, excursions, sports, and relaxing evenings. This format helped participants quickly get acquainted, communicate, and feel part of a large university community.
On the shore of the Black Sea, at the “Polytechnic” base, the summer was truly dynamic. Swimming in the sea, beach relaxation, sports activities, excursions, evening programs, and discos created the atmosphere of genuine student holidays. For many, the trip to the sea became one of the brightest events of the summer — a time filled with sunshine, activity, and new experiences.
Four shifts took place at the Southern camp. 295 students rested.
The first shift was dedicated to the sea, waves, and the aesthetics of surfing. The kids tried to catch the waves and spend a bright summer on the shores of the Black Sea. The second shift was held under the slogan “Youth is our luck, a moment when everything is still possible, a time to be brave, carefree, and genuine.” During the third shift, they celebrated different birthdays every day; the kids threw such a celebration for themselves and those around them that it would last for the whole year. The fourth shift transported everyone to sunny Rio de Janeiro, where there is a lot of dancing, sports, and colors.
A completely different mood greeted vacationers at the “Polytechnic” base in the village of Gory. Pine forest, picturesque views, walks, boats, swimming, and evenings by the campfire created a feeling of solitude and closeness to nature. The students’ interest was so high that at certain times there were no free spots left at the base: some came with their own tents just to spend more time in this scenic place. Here, one could slow down after a busy academic year, escape the city bustle, and spend time in a calm, warm company.
Three sessions were held at the Northern camp, attended by 144 people.
The first session was dedicated to astrology and horoscopes; the kids decided to trust the stars and see if they would help make their summer bright. The second session became a time where there was no place for boredom: every day turned into an adventure overflowing with energy. It was a territory where one could be oneself, try new things, and regret nothing. The third session introduced the kids to the elements; the students slowed down, felt the nature around them, and enjoyed it.
More than 200 events of various formats were held: intellectual and sports games, discos, quests, immersive performances, shows, new formats.
A special atmosphere has traditionally been preserved at the educational and historical reserve “Gagarin A. G. Estate ‘Kholomki'” as well. The old estate, connected with the history of the Polytechnic, combined a cultural program and a leisurely countryside holiday. Excursions, walks around the grounds, socializing, and quiet evenings allowed the participants of the session to feel anew their connection with the university’s traditions.
A total of 86 students stayed in Kholomki. Three student sessions took place, during which a large number of events were organized by SuperCulture organizers. There was also a spiritual and educational trip called “Spiritual Heritage of the Pskov Land,” where students visited various excursions in the Pskov region, including churches, monasteries, and historical sites.
The first student session was conducted as a real reality show. It was dedicated to the culture of show business. At the end, the kids gathered all the memories and were able to evaluate the completed show episode. The second session was devoted to research and adventures; every day students lived like real travelers, and in the evenings they gathered around the campfire. The third session was a music festival. Since August is the musical and theatrical season, the kids held vibrant discos, DJ sets, and creative workshops.
For the university, it is important that student holidays are not just a pause between academic semesters, but a time for full recovery, new experiences, and lively communication. We strive to create a safe, comfortable, and genuinely warm atmosphere at our facilities, one that people want to return to. The most valuable assessment of this work is the students’ emotions, their new acquaintances, and their desire to spend the summer again with Polytech, noted Acting Vice-Rector for Social and Organizational Activities Vyacheslav Olshevsky.
The summer season has ended, but the impressions gained at the university bases will stay with the students for a long time. For some, it was their first vacation, for others — a continuation of an already established tradition of annual trips.
