In Russia, Teacher’s Day is celebrated on October 5. In Moscow, there are large educational centers allowing schoolchildren to combine studies with intensive training and to master programs of primary, basic, and secondary general education.
Such an opportunity is provided by the sports and education centers “Sambo-70”, “Moscow Experimental School”, “Moscow-98”, the sports boarding school “Chertanovo” and the Moscow Olympic Reserve School. In total, more than four thousand trainees are engaged in them under the guidance of over 300 teachers. The largest educational platforms remain “Moscow-98” and “Sambo-70”.
“Moscow-98”: continuous education from kindergarten to 11th grade
At the “Moscow-98” center, continuous education can be obtained from kindergarten through graduation, combining school lessons with professional sports training. This academic year, the center has 103 classes: 39 primary, 53 basic, and 11 senior. Since students often go to training camps and competitions, teachers work with them according to individual schedules and organize additional consultations.
Pre-profile training begins here in the seventh grade, and in the upper grades there are academic, engineering, medical, and humanitarian tracks. The curriculum includes the study of English, German, Spanish, and Chinese languages. The center employs 188 teachers, three of whom have been teaching since the school’s founding in 1998. The staff has been recognized with state awards, including the title of “Honored Teacher of Russia,” grants from the Mayor of Moscow, and certificates from the President of the Russian Federation.
From sports management to pedagogy: what makes the “Sambo-70” school strong
The teaching staff of the comprehensive school at the “Sambo-70” center numbers 93 people. All teachers undergo regular advanced training courses, and one third of the team hold the highest and first qualification categories. The school successfully combines experience and new approaches: five teachers hold a Candidate of Sciences degree, and alongside experienced teachers work two young specialists.
The high level of qualifications of the teachers is also confirmed by state and professional awards. Among the school’s staff, 12 teachers have been awarded the title “Honored Worker of Education of Moscow,” four have the title “Honored Worker of Education of the Russian Federation,” and one teacher has been awarded the title “Honored Teacher of Russia.”
The school has also become a base for training future teachers. Since 2023, students from specialized universities—the Moscow State Pedagogical University and the Moscow State University of Sport and Tourism (MGUSiT)—have been doing internships there. Collaboration with MGUSiT has evolved into a large joint project for high school seniors: university professors visit eleventh graders and deliver special courses on the sports industry. Thanks to this, graduates can learn the basics of sports management, pedagogy, and PR directly at the school.
Moscow Experimental School: Experienced Masters and Young Teachers
There are 28 teachers, four supplementary education instructors, a psychologist, and an organizer working at the Moscow experimental school. Sixteen teachers are engaged in the primary grades, and 22 in the middle grades.
The team is composed of experienced masters. Among the leading teachers are an Honored Teacher of Russia, a candidate of pedagogical sciences, and an honorary education worker of Moscow. Some teachers have been working here for more than 25 years — these are primary school and Chinese language teachers, also awarded the titles of honorary education workers of the capital. Young personnel from among the graduates also come to the school. For example, one former student who graduated with a gold medal later returned here to work as a Chinese language teacher.
The school’s graduates consistently achieve high results: 95 percent of them successfully enroll in universities. Every year, 20 to 25 percent of high school students graduate with honors and receive the “For Special Academic Achievements” medal.
In addition to the school curriculum, students successfully represent Moscow in sports competitions. Among the school’s alumni are a winner and prize-winner of the Wushu Olympic tournament at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 33 world champions, 10 winners of the BRICS Games, 75 European champions, 165 Russian champions, and 65 winners of the All-Russian Spartakiads. The school has trained 10 Honored Masters of Sports of Russia, 36 International Masters of Sports of Russia, and 121 Masters of Sports of Russia.
The school adapts to the training sessions, and the training sessions adapt to the lessons
In the sports boarding school “Chertanovo”, sports and academics complement each other. Only football players study here, and the entire educational process is combined with the sports schedule. The school adjusts to the training sessions, and the training sessions adjust to the lessons. To get into the boarding school, it is necessary to pass a professional selection conducted by coaches once a month. First, the player’s football skills are assessed, and only after that is he enrolled in the general education school. This arrangement is especially convenient for out-of-town students.
There are 29 teachers working at the school. Many of them came here decades ago and have trained several generations of well-known athletes. The team includes educators with over 25, 30, and even 35 years of experience. Their high professionalism has been recognized with state and professional awards: titles such as “Honored Worker of General Education of the Russian Federation,” “Honored Education Worker of the City of Moscow,” and the badge “Excellence in Public Education.”
The school’s teachers have extensive experience and dedication, able to combine strictness with kindness — this is what makes the institution special. Here, young athletes grow into champions and worthy individuals.
