A series of popular science lectures for passengers will be held on regular river transport. The initiators are the State Public Institution “Transport Organizer” Department of Transport of Moscow and the Polytechnic Museum. The main theme is water as an environment that humans study, explore, and transform.
During thematic tours, participants learn about the physical and chemical properties of water, get acquainted with the history of maritime navigation and Moscow’s water system, and understand which engineering solutions transformed the capital into the port of five seas. The lectures are designed for everyone interested in science and technology.
“The project of free educational lectures on electric vessels continues to develop. We have already held more than 270 events, attended by over 6.1 thousand people. We regularly receive positive feedback from listeners. Electric vessels have become not just transportation, but a popular platform for education and leisure. Together with the Polytechnic Museum, we are launching a new lecture series. I am confident it will attract the interest of Muscovites and guests of the capital,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
The first lecture “Feeling the Seas: How Marine Navigation Developed” will take place on October 7 at 11:30 on the electric vessel of the second regular river route ZIL — Pechatniki. Martin Bedretdinov, a cultural expert and first-category guide at the Polytechnic Museum, will explain how people navigated the seas before the invention of the compasses and satellite systems familiar to us, how astrolabes, compasses, and ship radios changed the history of seafaring, as well as how continents were discovered and safety was ensured on the open sea.
“The Polytechnic Museum loves and knows how to tell about science so that different fields of knowledge come together into a single picture. Our lecture series on river electric vessels is exactly that: about the properties of water, the routes of seafarers, the locks of the Moscow River. These are topics that will engage both adults and teenagers, so the lectures can be listened to by the whole family: to spend time together and learn something new,” said Dmitry Kozhanov, General Director of the Polytechnic Museum.
Registration in the service is required to participate “Mosbilet”. Passage on the electric vessel is paid according to river tariffs.

In 2023, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin launched a unique project — the world’s first year-round regular river route for electric transport. This year, on June 7, the fourth route Luzhniki — Kievsky started operating. The total length of the river network has increased almost fivefold since the start of electric vessel operations.

Today in the capital, there are four regular river routes with a total length of about 34 kilometers: Kievsky — Fili Park, ZIL — Pechatniki, Novospassky — ZIL, and Luzhniki — Kievsky. The fleet includes 31 innovative electric vessels. Thanks to the opening of these routes, more than 1.8 million people living in 22 districts of Moscow have gained access to a new mode of transportation. Since the resumption of regular river traffic in Moscow, passengers have made over 4.2 million trips on electric vessels.
In September of last year, the first free lecture took place on the third regular route Novospassky — ZIL. The format was liked by the residents, and starting from October 2025, such meetings became regular. Now they are also held on other routes.
Themed routes operate on weekdays during hours when there are fewer passengers. Educational lectures are designed for a broad audience. Topics include sports, culture, art, urban studies, history, literature, science, and much more. Among the partners of the State Public Institution “Transport Organizer” is the Russian Society “Znanie”. Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy of the City of Moscow, the Russian State Library, major book publishers, capital city museums, and sports communities.
